How to Choose the Right Hot Tub Pump Wet End: Key Tips for a Perfect Fit

When selecting the correct hot tub pump or wet-end replacement, it's crucial to know the specifications like horsepower, amperage, speeds, voltage, and frame size. Equally important is identifying your pump's wet-end style and the connection sizes for the intake and pressure sides.

You'll generally encounter two primary wet-end orientations:

  1. Side discharge: A side discharge has the discharge offset from the intake
  2. Center discharge: A center discharge aligns the pressure side directly with the intake.

Confirm Wet-End Connection Sizes for a Secure Fit

To ensure a proper fit, you must verify the wet-end connection sizes. The most common sizes are 1.5”, 2”, and 2.5”. Here's how to measure:

  • For 1.5” connections, the outside diameter (OD) should be around 2-3/8”.
  • For 2” connections, the OD should measure close to 3”.
  • For 2.5” connections, the OD will be approximately 3-5/8”.

Remember, some pumps may have different-sized connections for the suction and pressure sides of the wet end, so it's always a good idea to measure both.

By following these guidelines, you'll ensure a seamless replacement and optimal performance for your hot tub.
